About Steve
More interested in the questions than the answers.
A wise man once told me, “Always be a rookie at something.”
There’s wisdom in that statement. We should always be learning, growing, pursuing our better selves through the gifts we’ve received.
At 60, I plunged into the rookie world once again, and after a 35-year career in mass media, became a high school English and oral communication teacher. My students are my mission field for this new life season.
From the Newsroom to the Classroom
Where Literacy Meets Self-Discovery
I’m a fourth-generation public-school educator who teaches through the unique lens of a 35-year mass-media professional. My students dive deep to discover and refine their gifts as they set course for life in a world that’s moving fast.
01
English Language Arts
ELA is far more than just a requirement for a high school diploma. A student who enters the post high school or post college world is best equipped when they are skilled in the art of written and oral communication. Students first learn to read, then they read to learn. They then move on to greater complexity as they analyze how writers craft messages. Finally, they use all these mechanics to build complex, self-aware arguments of their own.
From studying English Speech Forensics to mass communication, Steve brings a practitioner’s lens to every lesson
02
Oral Communication
Oral communication isn’t just standing behind a lecturn. It’s navigating a room. Students learn the art of steering dialogue, etiquette and conflict resolution, non-verbal communication, and how to specifically package and present information for different audiences.
From the competitive forensics stage to the classroom, Steve understands how words shape thinking and build confidence.
03
Forensics
High school forensics takes core oral communication milestones and elevates them into a competitive arena where rhetoric, performance, and analytical agility intersect. In this setting, our learning objectives shift from basic classroom competency to master-level audience persuasion and text interpretation. The real-world application is profound.
A lifelong learner who believes education happens everywhere — in classrooms, communities, and conversations.
